Sunday Dhamma School

Background & History

Ti-Ratana Lumbini Garden was officially opened by Most Venerable Datuk K Sri Dhammaratana, Chief High Priest of Malaysia, Spiritual Advisor of Ti-Ratana Lumbini Garden on 24th of February 2008.  Following the official opening, it has been Chief’s intention to set up a Sunday Dhamma School in this centre to provide Buddhist teachings to children, guiding them from a young age to lead their lives according to Buddhist principles.  Under his guidance and the support of 3 teachers (Sis Sally, Sis Wong and Miss Tan) and Sis Bee Khiw, a support staff, the Sunday School was officially declared opened on 8th of June 2008 with an enrolment of 18 students aged 5 to 10 years.

Throughout the year, the students are taught on the Life of the Buddha, Dhamma Living Skills, Hymn Singing and Art & Craft relating to Buddhism.  The students also participate in numerous activities organized by the Center such as Robes Offering Ceremony, Wesak Day Ceremony, Sports Carnival, Children Camp, Fields trips etc.  The school term ends in November with a Prize Giving ceremony for the best students in 3 different age categories.

There is a children library to encourage students to read dhamma books and story books written on moral values.  There are English medium classes as well as Chinese medium classes.  To date, we have volunteer teachers and staff to hold the fort of the Sunday Dhamma School guided by our resident monk Venerable Visuddhi who is the Principal of the School while Sis Wong is the Deputy Principal.
